Pete Hickman Wins Macau Grand Prix – Michael Rutter 2nd – Martin Jessop 3rd – Connor Cummins 4th – Horst Saiger 5th

Peter Hickman has won the 50th redition of the Suncity Group Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, beating his Bathams/SMT Racing BMW team mate Michael Rutter by 0.533 seconds, with Martin Jessop (Riders Motorcycles BMW) in third place, just 0.122 seconds behind Rutter.

Jessop started on pole and the race looked set to be a tyre war between Metzeler shod Jessop and Rutter and Dunlop's Hickman; the Metzelers were faster in qualifying but the Dunlops were expected to last the race better.

Rutter took the lead at the start, from Glenn Irwin (Be Wiser Ducati), Jessop, Hickman and Horst Saiger (Saiger Kawasaki). On lap two Jessop passed Irwin and began slowly catching Rutter. On the following lap Hickman also passed Irwin to take up third place, the front four pulling a big gap on the rest of the field.

At the half way point of the 12 lap race the front two riders appeared locked together, but Jessop eventually slipped past Rutter into first place on lap seven before Rutter re-took the lead, allowing Hickman to close up on the leading pair. Jessop took the lead again on lap 8, seeming to have more grip in his tyres than Rutter.

Two laps later Rutter and then Hickman passed Jessop, who seemed to having trouble changing gears. Hickman moved into the lead on lap 11 and although Jessop closed right up on second placed Rutter he could not make a pass on the narrow and armco-lined circuit.

Hickman finished in first place, half a second clear of Rutter, with Jessop a tenth of a second behind. Conor Cummins (Honda Racing) was fourth, twenty seconds a drift, with Saiger a further three seconds back in fifth place.
