Despite the snow earlier this week, and the struggles of some riders to get here due to the French air traffic control strike, qualifying for the Sunday Ride Classic round of the European Endurance Legend Cup got underway almost on time this afternoon, in near perfect conditions.

Fastest overall was Mattieu Sauve on the No.10 Japatuo Honda CB1100R, with a time of 2:21.705 set in the second riders' group. In the same group Stephane Mertens on the Team Force Harris Suzuki put in a time of 2:23.139 to go second fastest overall, while Sweatshop Phase One's last-minute addition, Graeme Gowland was third quickest overall with a time of 2:23.153.

The first session was dominated by Christophe Charles-Artigues on the Motobel Moto Guzzi (2:23.219) with Team Force's Gregory Fastre second on 2:23.244.

All the riders in all the groups have qualified.

If anyone thinks classic endurance is just old blokes nursing old bikes round a track, here's Olivier Delagneau on the OBRT Kawasaki Z1000J; he walked away from this.

This evening sees the second qualifying sessions starting at 19:05 local time, with night practice scheduled for 20:30 local time. Times in these sessions are expected to be slower due to the drop in temperature after sunset.
