Slovakia Ring 8H: Beetles Cause Time Change

Posted: 23rd June

Race now starts at 13:30 CET, 12:30 BST – Insects cause safety issue at nightfall – Riders and organisers agree to change start time

Insects have caused a flutter at the first edition of the 8 Hours of Slovakia Ring. The 4th round of the FIM EWC will start at 1.30pm CEST on Saturday, i.e. half an hour before the scheduled time. Clouds of insects appeared at nightfall, forcing the organization to change the times to keep riders safe at the tail end of the race.

Clouds of beetles descend on the Slovakia Ring at twilight, as the EWC riders discovered in the course of private tests last evening. The appearance of the insects is a seasonal and short-lived phenomenon in the area near Bratislava – which could, however, seriously perturb the tail end of the 8 Hours of Slovakia Ring on Saturday evening. At the riders’ request, the organizers have decided to bring the finish forward by half an hour in order to guarantee rider safety in the final stage of the race.

The 8 Hours of Slovakia Ring will therefore be flagged off at 1.30pm on Saturday.
